New ‘Buddy’ System
As a beginner or relatively inexperienced windsurfer you may feel nervous about joining a club and then being left to your own devices. The club now has six qualified RYA Start Windsurfing Instructors and has set up a ‘buddy’ system. The new instructors are John Christie, Tony West, Richard Houghton, Martin Harwood, Darren Knights and Philip Peaston.
Any member can contact one of these instructors and arrange to go sailing with them on a 1:1 basis. For more details see the Buddy System section under “Beginners Information” on the Home Page and then contact Philip Peaston on 07909992520 or e-mail memberships@hicklingbroad.co.uk
New Website, Instructor Training, Club Equipment
In 2009 members were sent a questionnaire and a high proportion responded (60%). The results highlighted a number of areas where members thought improvements could be made. Particular reference was made to updating/redesigning the website, more training being available to members, and the poor quality of the club loan equipment. Considerable progress has been made on all of these.
WEBSITE
This new website , which is still being developed, should be finished by June/July.
INSTRUCTOR TRAINING
The club with the help of ‘Active Norfolk’ has secured funds from the European Social Fund to train six RYA Start Level Windsurfing instructors. Six members of the committee volunteered and their training has started and is due to be completed on 13 June 2010. It is proposed to set up a ‘buddy system’ whereby any members will be able to contact one of these instructors and arrange to go sailing with them on a 1:1 basis. This will be particularly helpful to new and relatively inexperienced members.
CLUB EQUIPMENT
The club have recently submitted a bid to Sport England under their small grants scheme to enable the purchase of six modern beginner/early intermediate boards/rigs and a new boat/engine. Sport England normally take about 6 weeks to reach their decision. Watch this space !!
