Where to Learn

2016 The Club ran it’s first beginner training courses in June following the annual ‘Come and Try day’. This has the benefit of covering all that the RYA Start Windsurfing courses cover, plus it’s also a great introduction to the Club, and local sailing conditions at Hickling. At the end of the course you will be free to use the facilities 365 days a year, and of course sail at Hickling that has the best sailing conditions, and arguably the most beautiful spot of all the Broads. Instruction by RYA qualified Instructors.

2017 – due to popular demand and excellent feedback, we are running more courses. See events for more details.

While the club is affiliated to the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) it is not recognised as a RYA teaching centre.

If you are a complete beginner then we suggest that before joining the club you do a ‘taster’ session or a ‘Start windsurfing course’ at Whitlingham Outdoor Centre (RYA approved) at Trowse, Norwich. We offer reduced membership fees to anyone who has taken a course at Whitlingham.

Alternatively if you just want to have a go, then come along to the club’s annual ‘Come n Try Day’, normally held in June (See Events page).

As a beginner or relatively inexperienced windsurfer you may feel nervous about joining a club and then being left to your own devices. The club now has 6 qualified RYA Start Windsurfing instructors and has set up a ‘buddy system’. Any member can contact one of these instructors and arrange to go sailing with them on a 1:1 informal basis.
