Yes you have read it right!

The day in question was Friday 12 November and for those of you stuck at work, you missed a sweet day.

Sunny with the temp around 14C

Wind – WSW average 25mph gusting 30+

And only me on the water with the ducks!

Turned up about 10:30 and met a few old gits up there who said to was to windy for them.

It is always hard to know what to rig at Hickling when the wind is coming for the west as there is nothing on the beach.  The wind line sits about 150m out.  Went for a 5.0 and my 93l FWS (extra float to get out there).  Once I hit the wind line and got past the point it was full on.  Powered up to over powered all the time, the only bad thing was the SUN.  Since it is late in the year it is a bit low in the sky and the reflection of the water was right in my face (needed my sunnies on).

Came in to see if I could talk the old gits into sailing but they had headed off to the pub!  Went back out and the wind became full on, so changed down to my 80l wave board.  Took a little getting out back with it being a sinker but once in the wind zone it was full on (not sailed that at Hickling for over 4 years).  Nice chop to play on and flat water up the far end to nail them gybes in high wind.  Forgot how easy a small board goes round the bends.  I was joined by DT at one stage but his 120l would not stay on the water.

Came in after over 2 hours on the water when the wind dropped off a very happy boy!  Role on more Sunny Windy Winter days. (P.s love having Flexi days )

It's alright for you Gareth you've got the extra ballast round your waistline.

Us old gits had already done half a days work by the time you got there,

plus we spent valuable time strengthening the social ties of the club over

a well earned pint of Guiness.

Let's just see how old the old gits really are. Follow this link and work out whether you're down with the kids.Laugh

I'm 65 according to the clearly defective test. Anyway, I think my new toupee makes me look quite youthful.

Back on the water at last!

The weekends milder weather persuaded me and many others to wake from hibernation and grab the chance of a January blast. The gusty conditions and my lack of fitness meant I seemed to spend more time in the water rather than on it. My new winter suit and boots kept me toasty which is more than I can say for the UEA guys. With endless enthusiasm and bare feet they sailed throughout the day, until they were red and blue with cold. Hope to see you all again soon.

Cool

Yes very good day, sailing about on 5.7m with just the ducks and cold UEA bods!

That's what you get when you spend your money on beer and not boots!
