If you look at the site today, you’ll see there’s a new menu called “For Members” at the top, and underneath there are some new sub-menus for “User Registration”, “Speed Leaderboard”, “My Sails Dashboard” and “GPX Upload Form”. Basically , you can now upload your own gpx files using the form, look at them in the leaderboard compared to others, and have you own dashboard for all your sails (like a logbook). And for each sail session, you can look at the details and a map. To upload a gpx, you must be logged in (to avoid spam), and the gpx file should be unique. The code will pull all sail details from the file. The leaderboard will only show the quickest speed for a given member, and anyone can click on that speed to show the sailing session’s details and map. There’s been limited testing so happy to receive any feedback on bugs etc in the Forum that’s linked on the leaderboard page. The gpx file uploads should not be date sensitive, so you can upload much older sails if you want. Apologies to those that cant produce a gpx file from their smart watches or other tech.

Then why not pass on your experience of the location, including hints, tips, advice, photos? Basically anything that would be useful to a fellow sailor thinking of trying out that location for the first time.

  • Where is the best place to park?
  • What facilities (toilets, changing area, etc) are available?
  • What is the best wind direction?
  • Best place to launch?
  • Tide advice

  • Water obstacles

If you’d like to pass on some wise words, then use the Travel & Location Reports section of the Forum, click on the location, and select the “Reply to Post” opton. If the location doesn’t exist, create it using the “Add a New Topic” option.

Safety is a priority at the club and we are pleased to have a great safety record. It’s very important that all members are fully aware of potential hazards, how these can be avoided, and what to do in an emergency. The club has created a new safety document for this purpose which will be regularly updated. Do let us know if you need to advise others of new hazards or wish to add anything.  To find the document click here, or from the top menus, click The Club and then Risk Assessment.
