I currently am using the club boards which go down 150L at the club and can gybe comfortably. However i have been down to 120L on holiday using a starboard carve i think but i didn't attempt many gybes as there was too much wind for me to feel comfortable, I could tack the board though. The RRD does seem like a good step up from this as i will also have to account for the differences in fresh and salt water.

My thoughts - Key issues are how much do you weigh and what sort of board can you currently gybe off the plane? You've said you can't reliably waterstart so you need to be able to up haul a rig: I recall the RYA have estimated that to be comfortable as advanced intermediate you need [board volume L] - [body weight Kg] - [weight of kit Kg] > 20. Once moving I don't expect you'd have too much difficulty sailing the board in planing conditions and at 64cm width, the RRD shouldn't be too much of a handful..... If you're 80kg (wearing wetsuit and harness) or less, a 110 litre board wouldn't present too many problems. If you're 90 to 100kg then it would be significantly more marginal. In my experience it's tacking thats the difficulty as the board gets smaller.

However I am pretty clueless as to whether these are too advanced for my level or if the brand/style is any good and would like some advice on them.
Following the rya scheme i am intermediate moving onto advanced so i can happily plane along and sometimes do a non-plaing gybe to turn around. I can also waterstart but not consistently.
Any advice would be appreciated on these boards or other boards you would recommend.
