Bit of a bad move Phil. If everyone bunks off work and goes sailing, who do you think will pay our pensions.
You are right about one thing though, the next 4 days look pretty good.

A number of new members who have joined the club over the last few weeks have been asking me when will it be windy enough to sail properly and which direction is best?

Well, all this high pressure is great for planning a BBQ 3 days ahead with complete certainty, but useless for we windsurfers. A forecast is only a forecast, but have a look at http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/nr12 and http://www.windguru.cz/int/ind.....p?sc=54059 and you can see that the week ahead starting Sunday 28th is predicted to be south westerly, and wind strength in the mid teens mph-wise. That'll do nicely!

Today Sat is a bit light and easterly but go and have a practice. Then for Sunday onwards, those of you reliant on parents for transport book the taxi service now, and those of you working, well, don't. Go sailing instead.

By the way, don't worry about rain because you will be getting wet anyway. But avoid thunder.....

See you on the water!

but having taken a look this afternoon: cold, grey and barely F2 straight offshore I didnt't think it worthwhile and decided discretion rather than valour.... IMHO worst scenario is too little wind to get back and then it's a very long cold walk in chest deep water!

Does anyone know - is it remotely feasible to sail at Hickling under these conditions, or will I end up stranded about half a mile from the beach!?

Thanks Martin

As an update for all on this topic, I visited Hickling today (8 May) and one of the locks was stuck open and has been removed completely with a view to replacement. JT is on that case and will source a new pair of locks, and replace both. The design has all the faults Martin mentions, plus it is VERY easy to reset the code when operating the lock, which is not very helpful!

THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT THE CLUB BOARDS ARE AVAILABLE TO USE, BUT PLEASE IF YOU DO SO, ENSURE THE KIT HUT IS LOCKED AT ALL TIMES WHEN NOT BEING ACCESSED.

Hi all - especially those of you planning to sail and use the club kit.

A member helpfully reported a problem yesterday (Sat 4.5.13) that the padlocks securing the club boards together in the kit hut were difficult to re-lock. These are the brass padlocks securing the steel line through the boards, one on each side of the hut. Happily, the door lock on the hut is fine so the kit can be secured as normal in a locked hut.

We are on the case already in that Tony West or myself will go and have a look in the next few days and check things over. However, there is not a lot of wind forecast so it might be a day or six before we get down.

If you have problems then please let us know. If desperate, I might be able to pop over and help sort it.

WHEN THIS HAS BEEN LOOKED AT I WILL UPDATE THIS POST.

Thanks
